When you're in your early twenties, signs of aging are nothing but a boring topic reserved for the elderly, but by the time you reach your thirties, the chances are you'll also want to know how to look younger. The most important thing to remember is that it's never too early to start taking precautions. For instance, you should limit the amount of time you spend outdoors in the sun, and when you do go out, always ensure you're using sun protection. This one single precaution can delay the appearance of lines and wrinkles by up to twenty years, and it can also ensure you never develop sun spots or age spots later in life.
The benefits of staying out of the sun are obvious if you visit certain countries that generally get a lot of sunshine, and where the general population favors light colored skin. In Thailand for example, most people go to great lengths to cover up when they're outdoors and they have the most glorious skin as a result. Admittedly, they avoid the sun mostly because they don't want to darken their skin, but this also helps them to generally look far younger than they actually are.
Another very real contributor to premature aging is stress. In most western countries, the average person is so stressed out they end up looking years older than they are. If you can eliminate, or at least reduce stress levels, you will already have won half the battle. Diet and lifestyle mustn't be overlooked either, since both can cause havoc with the health of your skin. Junk foods and fast foods result in your body receiving insufficient nutrients. Lack of sleep is equally as bad, as is cigarette smoking and excessive alcohol.
The other major cause of premature aging is the widespread use of harmful skin care products. People think they're helping their skin by applying an endless amount of creams and lotions, but unless those creams are chosen with the utmost of care, they do more harm than good. Besides, if all those expensive name brand products really worked, you wouldn't have so many people going online to find tips on how to look younger. When you consider how many cosmetic procedures are carried out year in and year out, I think it's apparent that people have lost faith in skin care products.
Every year, an ever increasing number of people go under the knife, and even more fork out vast sums of money for things like laser treatments, microdermabrasion, and harsh chemical peels. This is a shame really since there are legitimate products out there which really can help you to reverse the signs of aging. In fact, using reputable natural products that are able to significantly reduce lines and wrinkles cost less than it does to have a cup of coffee each day.
I could write pages and pages as to why most brand name products should be avoided, but that's not the point of this post. In a nutshell, one simply needs to avoid chemical based skin care products and whether we like to believe it or not, that means most of the big name brands are out of the equation. People rush out to buy every new anti aging cream they read about, and then end up feeling let down and disappointed when results aren't forthcoming, but can one honestly expect to see an improvement when you're voluntarily clogging the pores with things like petroleum based mineral oil.
What about all the other commonly used chemicals, some of which are even used in pesticides and ultra potent weed killers? If these chemicals are able to wipe out weeds and pests, what sort of harm are they doing to one's skin? Also, what damage are they doing to one's overall health? Parabens for example are widely used as antibacterial agents, despite the fact that they can mimic the human estrogen hormone which has been directly linked to breast cancer. As adults, we all have to make our own choices, but I honestly do hope that anyone reading will at least pay more attention to what ingredients are being used in their anti wrinkle creams. We all want to know how to look younger, but we also want to live long enough to enjoy the results.
